Meredith Stroud runs a calligraphy business, Lowcountry Paper Co., and was working nights and weekends to keep up. After Flourish in Biz, her proposals went from four hours to under one, she saves eight hours a week on client work, and her corporate income grew from 7% to 25% of her business

Meredith Stroud, Owner, Lowcountry Paper Co.
When Meredith Stroud, owner of Lowcountry Paper Co., attended her brother’s wedding in 2023, she was there, but not fully present. Her mind was on work. She was holding inquiries, client notes, and deadlines in her head, worried that stepping away from the office, even for a day, would mean something would fall through the cracks and she wouldn’t be there to catch it. Even if her brain could hold it all, the tasks were getting crowded. Meredith found herself forgetting things, sometimes waking up in the middle of the night.
“That was the height of my hair-falling-out stage,” she said. “I didn’t really have a good system for having everything in one place. Everything was in my head.”
Meredith had been running her stationery and calligraphy business in Georgia for nearly a decade, first with a partner, then on her own. She kept pace until a post-COVID boom of re-planned weddings pushed her past her limit.
And it wasn’t for lack of trying. She had pieced together all kinds of programs and tools to handle the workload. A little course here. A bit of Asana there. But she kept adopting fixes before making the core decisions they were meant to support. It felt scattershot and exhausting.
She called herself the conductor of the “Hot Mess Express,” running a calligraphy business that felt like a Hollywood set: pretty on the outside, but barely held together by duct tape and clothespins on the inside.
When an inquiry came in, it usually took Meredith four hours to return a calligraphy proposal. Admin work gobbled up her weekends. The workload even started to affect her client experience, with projects piling on when she was already losing steam.
“I was falling behind on deadlines, which gave me anxiety. I would get an inquiry for a wedding, and instead of being excited about it, I was dreading it.”
She started getting calls from clients confused about next steps while she was buried in other calligraphy projects. It was time for a change. In 2024, Meredith completely shut down her contact form. “It felt good and a little scary,” she noted. She knew she could miss out on bookings, but when she mentioned the move to her husband, he agreed it was a good idea.
“He had seen me stay up late, work well past my closing hours, go back to the office after dinner. He felt like, ‘I would love to have my wife back.'”
And Meredith wanted her life back.

Meredith found Flourish in Biz through a calligraphy podcast, and before she even paid for anything, she and Alane were exchanging voice notes. The advice felt different: specific, practical, from someone who understood the work. “I needed another calligrapher to say, ‘Girl, ignore everything else that everybody else is selling. This is what you need to do, because I have been in your shoes.'”
She remembers a sense of hope flickering on. But having paid for coaches and courses before, Meredith wondered if a membership in Flourish in Biz would be any different. Or would it join other programs in her “Course Graveyard”?
Flourish in Biz avoided the graveyard entirely. Within the first call, she started to believe she could find her way through the “hot mess.”
What convinced her was the curriculum itself. The first order of business was building a roadmap tailored to her own calligraphy business goals. Then came practical worksheets and interactive calls where she didn’t just listen, but actually did the work. She spent just a few hours per week working through the modules.
Meredith says Flourish in Biz addressed exactly what she was struggling with, in order: messaging first, then client experience, and finally systems on top. With that framework, she put together a well-oiled machine that runs without her having to hold it up. Instead, she can focus on creating without the burnout.
Step by step, the business Meredith built has her on-task and productive, rather than scattered and distracted.
A supportive community to tap anytime she needed real-world advice also helped her stay on track instead of getting into the weeds, as she had before. Meredith did have one remaining concern: time. Her contact form was about to reopen. Whatever she committed to had to work, and work quickly.
Within the first weeks of Flourish in Biz, Meredith sighed in relief: less busywork, more business work. By pulling tasks out of her head and into HoneyBook, her single client management workspace, she starts each day knowing exactly which ones need her attention. Calligraphy proposals that used to take up to four hours are now delivered in less than an hour. (This is an affiliate link, so I may earn a small commission if you sign up, at no extra cost to you.)
It means Meredith is no longer working weekends. In fact, customized templates and systems also save her an additional eight hours during the workweek. She completes client work with time to spare, so she can dedicate Fridays to working on her business instead of just in it. Even so, Meredith doesn’t worry clients will feel left behind. She discovered they feel the opposite.
“I have wedding planners telling me booking a client is so much easier, and they love how proposals and everything are seamless.” It all fits together this time because Meredith shaped the customer journey in an intentional way.
“Building in a specific order kept me focused and not jumping ahead,” she related. “You get very clear about who your client is before you can create a system around their experience.”
All together, Meredith designed a calligraphy business she’s excited to run, staying on track with a proactive customer experience, even during the busy season.
“I’m not working from sunup to sundown. I feel like I just have more breathing space to do the creative design part.”
To maintain what she built in Flourish in Biz, she stayed connected with Inner Circle, an advanced calligraphy coaching program for graduates focused on marketing, pricing, and ongoing support in a smaller, strategic setting. It kept her on track and opened the way to something more. Meredith refined her wedding offerings and finally launched her corporate client services.
She gained confidence in Momentum Minimind, a place for alumni to cash in on their foundation, through bi-monthly 1:1 calls and group check-ins.
With the capacity to offer on-site work, Meredith has shifted her client base from 93% weddings to a more balanced spread of wedding, corporate, and commission work. Her corporate income ratio alone grew from 7% to 25%.
7% → 25%: Expanded ratio of corporate income
While she’s bringing in roughly the same revenue overall, it’s across a more sustainable portfolio. And with more time to innovate, Meredith is capturing more leads with a new ready-to-order signature collection in addition to her bespoke packages.

Most importantly, Meredith can now live her life outside of work too. Even with a booked calendar, she can go on walks with her dog, enjoy evenings with her husband, and spend restorative weekends in the garden. “I’m not checking my phone,” she said. “All I’m doing is playing in the dirt, and it fills up my creative tank for the next week.” Also, when a vacation or family event rolls around, Meredith can be fully present. When she flew to Las Vegas to celebrate her dad’s 70th birthday, she left her laptop at home. Meredith took her business phone but never turned it on.
“It felt so good. I never worried about anything. The feeling of being present as we were celebrating my dad was amazing.”
And that serenity and connection has followed her back into her studio. “I now start each day excited about what I have to do and not dreading it. I like my job again.”

The Challenge: Meredith was holding her business together with memory and hustle, until burnout forced her to shut it down.
The Approach: Flourish in Biz gave her a framework, templates, and a community to build her business engine in the right order. Inner Circle and Momentum Minimind gave her a place to keep it humming.
The Impact: A full day saved every workweek, weekends reclaimed, and a growing business Meredith loves.
Under an hour once you have templates and a client management system in place. Meredith’s proposals took four hours before she built her workflow. Most of that time went to rewriting the same information from scratch on every inquiry.
One place to hold every project and deadline, templates for your most repeated emails and proposals, and a defined client journey from inquiry to delivery. Meredith built hers in that order and saves about eight hours a week.
No. Meredith closed her contact form in 2024 because she’d already hit her limit, not because it’s a required step. Most calligraphers can build systems while still booking, as long as they start with messaging and client experience before adding tools.
Usually because they’re adopted out of order. Meredith had pieced together courses and project management tools before she’d made the underlying decisions those tools were meant to support, so nothing held. Sequence matters more than the software.
Meredith noticed less busywork within the first few weeks of Flourish in Biz. The larger shifts, reclaiming weekends and growing corporate income from 7% to 25% of her business, came over the following year as she moved into Inner Circle and Momentum Minimind.
