Are you in the wedding industry and struggling to find your ideal clients? Whether you’re a florist, photographer, caterer, wedding planner or calligrapher like me, taking the time to understand your target audience is an important step to finding clients that will make creating beautiful events enjoyable for everyone involved. With that said, I have a bit of a different approach when it comes to “finding” your ideal clients in the wedding industry than I hear most people talking about! It’s almost become a buzz word in the industry where it feels like as a professional in the wedding industry, it’s our job to “speak to” our ideal clients and then they will come running.
But here’s the thing: I actually believe it’s out job to create them.
The wedding industry often involves working with individuals who are getting married for the first time, and they may not know what to expect when working with you. That’s why I believe as vendors we sometimes need to reset our expectations and instead believe that anyone can become an ideal client if given the chance. By sharing who you are, what your services are all about, and what you bring to the table, you can bridge the knowledge gap and set realistic expectations. It’s important to make every interaction count, showcasing your professionalism and expertise, and being intentional about the way you show up for them.
Together, we can guide our couples on how to become our ideal clients, and trust, me it’s worth the effort! Here are 4 ways to get started.
The first step to finding your ideal clients in the wedding industry is to set boundaries. As a wedding professional, it’s important to establish clear communication channels and hours. If your “ideal client” doesn’t text you, make sure you let potential clients know that where you like communication to happen instead (ie. All communication will happen over email to ensure nothing is missed. I check my inbox once per day and always respond within X business days). This way, you can ensure that your clients understand your expectations and can reach you when needed. By setting boundaries upfront, you’ll also avoid wasting time working with clients that are not a good fit for you.
As wedding professionals, it’s easy to be tempted to take on every project that comes our way, especially in the beginning stages of our business. But in order to attract your ideal clients, you need to have a clear idea of what you’re passionate about. Say yes to the projects that light you up, and you’ll find that your clients will share your enthusiasm. This will make the whole process so much more enjoyable for everyone involved.
As I mentioned above, oftentimes, clients who come to us in the wedding industry have never planned a wedding before. It’s up to us as professionals to educate them on who we are, how we can serve them, and what they can expect when working together. By sharing your knowledge and expertise, you’ll build trust with your clients, and they’ll be more open to working with you. This is one of the best ways to create your ideal clients. You can do this both in your marketing content and during your initial consultations.
This may seem obvious but treating your clients the way you would want to be treated is crucial. Going above and beyond to make their experience with you memorable can lead to positive reviews and referrals, which can result in attracting more of your ideal clients. It all starts with treating your current clients with exceptional customer service. Show them that you care about their needs and take the time to listen to what they’re saying.
At the end of the day, it’s all about treating your clients with respect and empathy. That’s why I offer mentoring sessions – to help other creators build a successful business and to provide them with the resources they need to reach their goals. I’m passionate about helping others, and that’s why quality customer service is so important to me. I want my clients to feel heard, respected, and valued throughout the entire process, whether they are hiring me for their day of wedding stationery and calligraphy or trusting me to help them build their own businesses. If you are a fellow business owner, make sure you are following me on Instagram to find out when my mentoring sessions open up again.
