Who doesn’t want to get married in the Hamptons? You could hardly dream of a wedding venue more idyllic than Gurney’s Montauk. When Kerri and Jeff reached out to start planning their beachy boho wedding in the Hamptons, I couldn’t wait to start brainstorming design ideas! Their wedding was incredibly personalized, so the pieces we created needed to be custom too. We used gorgeous frosted acrylic for their signage, and blue surfboards for their seating chart to add a pop of color (and tie in the beachy vibes of the Hamptons). I know neutral wedding colors are popular right now but I will never say no to adding a burst of color! If you feel the same, I have a feeling you’ll love this Gurney’s Montauk wedding as much as I did!
A welcome sign almost always needs to be custom. For Kerri and Jeff’s wedding at Gurney’s Montauk, we chose frosted acrylic and white ink, topped off with a tailored arrangement from their florist. We included their wedding hashtag too, so guests could tag them in photos throughout the day instead of waiting until the reception (where you’ll typically see a wedding hashtag sign).
Wondering what else you can include on a welcome sign? I usually suggest your names and wedding date at a minimum, but you can also include a favorite song lyric or quote, the name of the venue, or something funny (like the word “finally” if it’s been a long time coming!). For welcome sign wording ideas, head here!
I never turn down a bright pop of color and these surfboards made the perfect backdrop to Kerri and Jeff’s seating chart. The florist added a pampas grass floral arrangement to the base to “anchor” them and tie them in with the rest of the boho wedding reception decor. They were an absolute hit! Seriously, when you are planning your seating chart, it’s the perfect opportunity to choose something kind of fun because you know each and every one of your guests will see it. In fact, more than likely it’ll be one of the first things they see! If you are looking for one of the best places to splurge, let’s brainstorm your own wow factor seating chart!
I have to admit, boho wedding vibes have my whole heart. I loved the tall boho floral centerpieces and warm neutral color palette of their wedding reception. To pair with the other decor, we used a mixture of frosted acrylic rentals (like their table numbers) and custom pieces (like their hashtag sign). Planning your wedding calligraphy and wondering what pieces should be custom and what can be rented? I wrote a whole post about that here.
Two of my favorite personal touches from this Gurneys Montauk wedding were their bar sign toasting to “Floyd” (someone special to the couple!) and their “spicy and sweet” wedding favor signs. As a wedding calligrapher, I always love the ultra-personal, completely unique wedding day pieces the most. I love to bring my couple’s personalities (and parts of their love story) into their wedding day decor. Whether you want to create signage for someone special (like Kerri and Jeff’s cocktail sign or this Costa Rica wedding ceremony sign for the bride’s mother), the more personal you can make your wedding day, the better.
I absolutely loved working with Kerri and Jeff to create timeless, handmade details. From the moment their guests were greeted at their wedding ceremony to the end of the evening when they grabbed their hot sauce and cookie wedding favors, their wedding was beautifully and uniquely theirs.
