This September wedding in Upstate New York has absolutely cemented a place in my heart! Seriously, if you know me, you know that I love a boho wedding, and mixing and matching styles to create something unique and stunning for each couple I work with (if we haven’t met yet, I’m a wedding calligrapher and you can find out more about me here). Anggi and Steven held their micro wedding at an Airbnb in the Catskills, only two short hours from New York City, but felt like a world away. By keeping their guest list smaller, they splurged on unique touches and curated an intimate experience for their closest family and friends. Whether you have been considering a New York micro wedding, an Airbnb wedding, or just love boho wedding inspiration, I think you’ll fall in love with Anggi and Steven as much as I did!
If you are dreaming of a backyard wedding, but don’t exactly have the backyard you need, consider renting an Airbnb. Especially if you have a smaller guest list! Check with your Airbnb host (and read the terms and conditions), but for Anggi and Steven, this option was perfect. Personalized details were incredibly important to them, so we focused on pieces that would leave a lasting impression on their guests, from the moment they arrived. For the outdoor wedding ceremony, that meant starting with a welcome sign and a “sit where you’d like” sign greeting their guests.
Their boho wedding style was brought to life with the wooden signage, oversized linens, and a vintage rug as an aisle runner. They added rustic wedding chairs to add to the outdoorsy vibe of their Airbnb wedding venue. Although mixing and matching styles can require a bit more work than choosing “one style” and sticking with it, it’s worth it. What better way to wow your guests? The result was gorgeous and something truly custom for them.
The personalized details continued into the micro wedding reception, where Anggi and Steven hosted their guests on two rustic tables and a sweetheart table for the two of them. When we planned their wedding day signage, we were incredibly intentional in focusing on the pieces their guests would interact with, and what pieces would draw attention to the personalized and intimate experience they wanted their guests to have. For their backyard wedding reception, this meant creating an Oyster Bar sign, and a signature drink with their precious pup’s face! Being an Airbnb wedding, their dog was able to make an appearance and enjoy the wedding reception with them! She was a hit (naturally).
Listen, there is a reason my heart flutters when looking at boho wedding decor and it’s not just because it’s gorgeous. I love the mixture of natural textures (like the wooden signage) and how it seems to blend effortlessly with handmade paper in gold frames (like their signature cocktail sign!). It doesn’t feel as rigid as some of the other wedding decor styles (for example, it’s hard to mix and match modern wedding design with something classic without looking out of place). Boho wedding decor seems to naturally embrace a mix of colors as well, so you can say goodbye to the days of choosing one or two colors and infusing them in every single thing.

I know I might say this every time, but truly this was one of my favorite weddings from last year. As a calligrapher, you can probably guess how much I value unique touches. That’s one of the reasons I loved Anggi and Steven’s wedding so much. They embraced all of the wedding signage and personalized wedding decor and the end result was a wedding day that was truly a unique representation of them. From the ceremony sign to signature cocktails, from start to finish the day was incredible.

We can’t say enough about how professional Alane is—and the quality of work that she provides. We were extremely pleased with how BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT our signage came out—from our welcome sign to our drink sign with our pups face on it (our guest are still talking about the Clo-Rita sign)—Calligraphy was one of my top-must haves in our wedding and I’m so happy we had the best in the game! We highly recommend her and can’t wait to have her work for future events.
