As a New Jersey wedding calligrapher, it feels SO good to be ““back in action” again! Couples I’ve been working with since 2020 are finally starting to walk down the aisle and it has been so rewarding watching all of our hard work be brought to life. Like so many other wedding vendors here in New York and New Jersey, it feels like we just blinked and suddenly the calendar was full for 2021. If you’ve been meaning to reach out, I only have a couple spots left for 2021 (in November and December) and, as crazy as it seems, I’m already booking well into 2022! So, today, I wanted to share some advice on the blog that will help you plan your 2022 celebration.
My first piece of advice for wedding couples looking to plan for a 2022 wedding, is to start early! I know you might be tempted to enjoy New Jersey summer weather (and you definitely should!) and start wedding planning in the fall, but trust me when I say, you’re going to want to start sooner rather than later. Many established wedding vendors already have busy calendars…between 2020/2021 postponements and the lack of availability in 2021, there’s been a surge of interest in 2022 wedding dates. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty of room for you and yours to tie the knot, but there is no time like the present to save the date!
If you don’t have a wedding venue booked yet, I’m so glad you found your way to the Write Pretty for Me blog. You’ll find my favorite outdoor wedding venues in New Jersey here. If you are looking for a micro wedding venue (because after 2021, you realize how much you love the intimacy!), head here for alternative wedding venues and restaurants that have been some of my favorites for New Jersey micro weddings. Don’t want to battle venue availability but have a private residence or backyard that might work? You’ll find plenty of inspiration here.
It’s not just your wedding venue that you’ll want to book early! I specialize in custom wedding day signage and wedding invitations, which is typically a service that is booked at least 4-6 months in advance. The fact that I am already booking well into 2022 is a little crazy (although all of the couples I’ve started working with are incredible, so I seriously can’t wait!). If custom decor and wedding calligraphy is important to you, I would love for you to reach out here and get in touch. If you are wondering how much you should budget for custom calligraphy, you can read this post here. If you are more interested in a full breakdown of what to expect when working with me, I’ve got you covered here. Don’t worry, though, I’m going to go more into detail below for my couples planning 2022 weddings!
Even though I want to encourage you to get in touch as soon as possible, there are a few things to consider before reaching out and booking wedding calligraphy, custom signage, wedding invitations & stationery. Before we start planning your wedding decor, you should have a general idea on the style of wedding you are having, and most couples book their florist before reaching out. It’s completely okay if you don’t have everything figured out before we start working together, but having a sense of the general mood/vibe you are going for will help me decide if I should pull out the acrylic or mirrors!
I always book a complimentary consultation call before so we can get a feel for what you might need (a welcome sign, a seating chart, signature drink signs, etc.). From there, I will put together a custom proposal for you to place your 50% deposit (but more importantly: this is when I save your date on my calendar). I know that when I ask you to book for 2022, you might not have all the details ironed out yet. About 3 months before your wedding date, we’ll start to finalize all of the details and you can add anything we might have missed (table numbers, a card box, etc). I also offer rentals to my custom wedding signage couples as an affordable, low-waste option for certain items on your wishlist that don’t necessarily need to be custom. We can always adjust the proposal, so please don’t wait until you have everything figured out to save your date! As I mentioned, 2021 is completely full until November (with very limited spots left) and 2022 is booking fast!
As a wedding calligrapher, I work with couples all over New Jersey and New York for “heavier” pieces like mirror seating charts and wooden signage. For lighter items (like invitations, vow books, acrylic table numbers) that are easier to mail, I work with couples all over the USA. You can find plenty of wedding calligraphy inspiration in my portfolio. If you are in a time crunch and are looking for something for this year, you can shop on etsy to find a few of my favorite pieces available as a digital download.
The last piece of advice I will leave you with for planning your 2022 wedding is that when you find a wedding vendor you want to work with, save your date!!! I know we all have a tendency to procrastinate, be indecisive, or shop around, but as a wedding vendor myself, all I want for couples getting married is a team of vendors whom they truly want. No part of your wedding should feel like a sacrifice for waiting too long to book.
