When it comes to showcasing your brand, one of the most important investments you can make is a professional brand shoot. A brand shoot is a collection of images that represent your brand and what it stands for. They serve as visual assets that can be used across your website, social media platforms, and other marketing collateral. A well-planned brand shoot can help you stand out, build trust with potential clients, and attract your ideal audience.
As a calligrapher who has invested in several brand shoots myself, I understand the power of a great set of images. And while a good photographer is undoubtedly a must-have for a successful shoot, I believe that approaching it from a non-photographer’s perspective can help you bring a unique and intentional touch. Whether you’re a wedding planner, floral designer, or any other wedding professional, here are my tips on how to plan an intentional brand shoot that is sure to capture your brand’s essence!
When selecting outfits to wear during your brand shoot, be sure to choose clothing that truly represents who you are and the emotions you want to evoke in your ideal client. If you don’t wear a blazer to client meetings, you don’t need to buy one for your branding photoshoot! If you are uncomfortable, you are going to look that way in your photos!
This is an opportunity to showcase your personal style, but also make sure it aligns with your brand. For example, if your brand is known for being playful and whimsical, choose bright and colorful outfits that capture that essence. On the other hand, if your brand is elegant and sophisticated, choose timeless pieces that convey that feeling.
Props are an excellent way to add personality and creativity to your brand shoot. They can range from simple items like flowers and books to more elaborate objects like furniture or signage. As a calligrapher, I always bring some of my favorite tools (such as ink, nibs, and paper) as well as pre-made calligraphy pieces that can be used as backdrops or foreground elements. This not only adds a personal touch, but also showcases my skills as a calligrapher. Just be sure to choose props that make sense for your brand and overall aesthetic. Everything should have a purpose!
Another example? I had a large balloon “5” because I knew I would want to create a post about celebrating 5 years full-time in my business! What do you want to showcase? What props do you need for that?
It’s not enough to simply have a collection of beautiful images – you also need to have a plan for how and where to use them. Consider the types of shots and orientations (horizontal vs. vertical) you’ll need for various platforms, such as Instagram, Pinterest, or your website. I suggest making a list of all the potential uses for your images, then plan your shoot accordingly. For example, if you know you need vertical images for Instagram stories or reels, be sure to capture several during your shoot.
Yes – this takes extra time! But a branding photoshoot is more than a financial investment, it’s an investment of your time too. Spending extra time planning your shoot will make a WORLD of difference when it comes to the effectiveness of your photos!
Finding a photographer who can execute your vision is crucial to the success of your brand shoot. Take the time to research and interview potential photographers, paying attention to their portfolio and communication style. During your shoot, be sure to communicate your vision and goals for each shot. A good photographer will not only capture stunning images, but also take your feedback and ideas into consideration. I was so fortunate to work with Mile Square Moments here in Hoboken to bring my branding photoshoot vision to life!
Finally, the most important element of any successful brand shoot is authenticity. Be sure to embrace your unique style and brand personality throughout the shoot. This includes everything from the poses you strike to the props you choose. Remember, your brand shoot is an opportunity to showcase what sets you apart and what you stand for. Don’t be afraid to let your personality and style shine through in every shot. For example, in my last branding photoshoot I included some shots with my dog Oliver and made sure to take some more “lifestyle” shots OUTSIDE of the studio.
A well-planned brand shoot can be a game-changer for wedding professionals and other creatives when looking to attract and book their ideal clients. By incorporating these tips from a calligrapher’s perspective, you can ensure that your images truly capture your brand’s essence, personality, and style. From prop selection to collaboration with your photographer, each element of your shoot should be intentional and purposeful. So, take the time to plan and execute a shoot that truly represents what you stand for – and watch as your ideal clients start to take notice.
