7 Fall Wedding Ideas for 2023

As the weather starts to dip here in New Jersey (and our fall wedding season comes to an end!), I wanted to take the opportunity to share some of my favorite fall wedding ideas for those of you looking to plan a wedding in the fall of 2023! If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’m a lover of all things boho and terracotta, so it should be no surprise that fall weddings are often my favorite. In fact, I can’t believe I haven’t written a post dedicated to my love of fall weddings yet!

Before I jump in, let me share the quintessential fall wedding photo that inspired this post below (stay tuned for more of Erica and Joe’s wedding once I receive the full gallery!), but in the meantime, enjoy these 7 fall wedding ideas!

Acrylic Wedding Signage

You knew there would be something acrylic here, right? I love incorporating acrylic into weddings because it’s so versatile! The back can be painted to quickly and easily bring your color palette into your signage. One of my personal favorites for fall is (no surprise) a terracotta backdrop with white ink. When working with acrylic, I try to create pieces that can be used in multiple places whenever possible (ie. your welcome sign can greet guests at your wedding ceremony and your reception, and then repurposed as a piece of home decor, which is exactly what Erica and Joe did!). Acrylic lends itself to many different wedding styles, so whether you are drawn to classic or modern touches, acrylic often blends in effortlessly.

A Warm Color Palette in Florals

As the weather gets cooler, the color palettes get warmer. I don’t make the rules! If you’re planning a fall wedding in 2023, I am loving watching couples lean into a warm color palette with their florals. Talk to your florist about what’s in season, but muted tones like terracotta tend to pair well with white florals and dried greenery! How dreamy is this sweetheart set up from one of my favroite NJ venues, Crossed Keys Estate?! (And did you notice how they repurposed the arch from the ceremony to their reception?!)

And in Wedding Party Outfits!

Where were we before asymmetrical wedding party outfits? Although not technically a fall wedding idea, I couldn’t stop myself from sharing these gorgeous fall wedding party outfits.

Back to Florals… Dried Options are Popular in the Fall!

Yes, there is Pampas Grass. But there are so many more options too! I always encourage my couples to work with their florist and don’t be afraid to ask for their advice! They are an INVALUABLE resource (that’s why you hire professional vendors in the first place!). They can do so much more than recreate that bouquet you found on Pinterest. The florists I know all love to collaborate with their couples to create something NEW.

Shameless plug: you’ll notice below how the dried floral decor pairs well with both handmade paper signage in frames and acrylic table numbers. I personally love when couples aren’t afraid to combine traditional wedding styles (you don’t HAVE to choose “all boho” or “all modern”). Don’t believe me? Warm Hues + Wax Seals = Fall Wedding Invitation Perfection

The perfect wedding invitation suite does not exist… or does it? I absolutely love a custom invitation suite in a warm fall color palette. The wax seals are just a bonus! Don’t forget to ask about custom vow books too. You spent a lot of time writing your vows and at the end of your wedding day, they are all you have. You deserve a keepsake!

Mix in Some Rustic Decor & Wood Mediums

I mentioned it briefly above, but just because you choose some boho wedding decor accents or a classic color palette, does NOT mean you are limited to that style for every single piece in your wedding design. In the fall, I love some rustic decor accents and working with wood mediums. This seating chart from repurposed doors below was one of my favorite projects this year, and was a team effort between the couple and the brides father, who refinished the wood and installed the gorgeous vintage hardware! They looked simply stunning against Battello’s navy blue walls.

Fall Weddings are the Perfect Time to get Moody too

Drawn to a moodier color palette? Me too. There is something so romantic about using a darker wedding color accent (like the gorgeous invitation suite below). Black accents have also made their way into the world of wedding decor and can add a polished, elegant, slightly more modern look. I can’t decide what I love more!

Lastly, Add candles in unexpected places for a cozy ambiance!

Last (but definitely not least!), consider adding candles in unexpected places for an extra cozy ambiance. Erica and Joseph added them in their seating chart display and I absolutely love the way they turned out! The more candles the better, right?!
