An Ocean Inspired Wedding at Gurney’s Newport in Rhode Island

When I tell you that Moriah and Jason’s wedding was worth the wait, I want you to know how sincere I am being. I’ve worked with so many incredible couples over this busy 2021 wedding season, but these two were definitely a Write Pretty For Me favorite. Moriah came to me with such a grand vision for her ocean-inspired wedding at Gurney’s Newport, and we definitely delivered (in my humble opinion!). When we started dreaming up the design, we wanted the decor to fit the dreamy oceanfront location, but not feel over-the-top “beachy”.

Their wedding photos are truly a testament to what can be achieved when you invest in multiple custom calligraphy pieces, and that truly makes my heart sing. We used a lot of acrylic with blue accents to really tie in the setting without feeling over the top. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the photos to share them with you!

New Jersey Wedding Calligrapher

Wedding Ceremony at Gurney’s Newport in Rhode Island

Moriah had been following me on Instagram since before they were engaged and we started working together as soon as they had a date set (back in the summer of 2019!). Like many others, their 2020 wedding was pushed to 2021. Let me just repeat my earlier sentiment: it was worth the wait. For the wedding ceremony, we created custom vow books, a gorgeous acrylic welcome sign, and ceremony fan programs to keep their guests cool on a hot July weekend!

Ocean Inspired Ombre Seating Chart

Another element of the ocean we brought into the decor? Their gorgeous ombre seating chart. I have to admit, this was one of my favorite seating charts ever (click here for more seating chart inspiration). It was such a project, with a custom stand and an abundance of florals allowing the cards for each guest to pop, but when it all came together it felt like pure magic. Who wouldn’t be excited to find their name here?!

We carried in the blue acrylic design inside so that the wedding would feel cohesive but still not over-the-top beachy. Their custom table numbers were set on a blue backdrop (allowing the numbers to really pop) and we also created acrylic menu cards for each place setting.

When I think about wedding calligraphy (and why I love what I do so much!), I always pay special attention to what your guests will interact with. Unlike other pieces of decor, calligraphy is uniquely designed to be at the center of attention and direct guests where they need to be (whether that’s a welcome sign, a seating chart, or a table number). When I designed the acrylic menu cards, I could picture guests picking them up (and getting excited for what was to come)!

Rhode Island Wedding Inspiration

If Moriah and Jason’s wedding taught me anything, is that I should really spend more time in Rhode Island! Gurney’s Newport is an absolutely gorgeous wedding venue. The oceanfront setting was absolutely breathtaking.
